As they say, ‘The best adventures happen while the world sleeps’. Well actually we just made that up but it sounds like good enough motivation to get your body out of bed at 1am to go climb a volcano.

After all the beach parties, cocktails and endless shopping, it’s now time to #stepitup and challenge yourself. What better way to do that than hike Bali’s sacred Mt Batur, a part of UNESCO’s Global Geopark Network.

This is a challenging climb but worth every step of the 1,717 metres to the top. The crater, the lake, the landscape under a canopy of stars… this is why you got up at 1am. To stand on top of the world while it sleeps and breathe the mountain air.

Watch the morning rays of orange illuminate the silhouette of Mt Agung as the scent of coffee drifts across your nose. It’s time for a high altitude breakfast which your guide has cooking (wait for it)....in the volcanic steam!

The photos you send home will delight your friends, family and personal trainer. Tick “hiking an active volcano” off that bucket list of yours and get yourself a lifetime story to share with your grandkids more times than they care to hear.

Itinerary (10 hours - start from your pick up time*)

Be on standby for the pick up in our VIP car. Put on your hiking boots, a windbreaker coat and you’re set for an adventure.
Arriving at the foot of Batur around 3 AM, you’ll meet your experienced, private guide who’ll welcome you with a smile, flashlight, and mineral water.
The hike up will take 2 - 2.5 hours, depending on your stamina. Along the way, you’ll stop regularly for a gulp of water and some pep talk. Choose your own pace but remember, to reach the summit for the first rays you’d need to keep a pretty moderate one.
Once you’ve reached the top and done taking the 100th photo with your camera, it’s time to go down. If you’re lucky you can catch cheeky little monkeys playing around an abandoned yet beautiful temple which survived the 1963 black lava eruption.
The day is not over yet! On the way back, we’ll take you to a beautiful restaurant to enjoy buffet breakfast with a 360 view of the exact volcano you hiked earlier. Surreal.
