Star Anise, our Indonesian restaurant, offers a wonderful selection of authentic home-cooked dishes from around the archipelago. Premium local ingredients are utilised, sauces are freshly made and spices are ground by hand.
Here, our Indonesian chef has cleverly designed a delicious à la carte menu, the ‘Nasi Tumpeng’ three-course tasting menu, and a splendid Grand ‘Rijstaffel’ banquet created from traditional recipes and filled with variety to suit all tastes; you are invited to share by dining family style.
Our signature Grand Ristaffel is a veritable feast introducing a generous assortment of 20 dishes, spread across the table in a celebration of the many different specialties of the far-flung Indonesian islands. Dishes include ‘Otak Otak,’ for example, which is a delicacy from Surabaya, featuring minced fishcake grilled in a banana leaf package. The ‘Telur Bumbu Bali’ is boiled egg with spicy sauce, while ‘Ayam Taliwang’ is Lombok-style grilled chicken. ‘Gado Gado' is another classic, comprised of rolled local vegetables with peanut sauce; ‘Perkedel Jagung’ is sweet corn fritter; ‘Terong Kecap’ is fried crispy eggplant, and ‘Tempe Manis’ is fried bean cake. This, and much more, is served with pickles, crackers and yellow rice, and completed with Balinese desserts.
Open daily for lunch and dinner, and adjoined by a pretty garden, the 160-seat Star Anise Restaurant is conveniently located streetside in front of the hotel and is open to outside guests. Its substantial size makes it ideal for large groups and parties. Dinner is complemented by a Balinese dance performance three times a week.
