    Among the many Barong Dance performances on the island, the Barong and Keris Dance of Batubulan remains unique due to its focus on the Kunti Seraya story, a play that has been performed since the 30’s.

    An interesting documentation of this play was once written by Walter Spies in his book Dance and Drama In Bali.

    Shows last between 45 minutes and an hour, and the end of the show features photo taking onstage with the performing cast in their full costumes, as well as with the gamelan orchestra. Dances show once daily, usually starting in the morning, between 09:30 and 10:30.

    Tirta Empul temple is a Hindu Balinese water temple located near the town of Tampaksiring, Bali, Indonesia.

    The temple compound consists of a petirtaan or bathing structure, famous for its holy spring water, where Balinese Hindus go to for ritual purification.

    As soon as you enter temple, you will walk through the large stone Balinese gate (locally known as Candi Bentar) and arrive in the outer courtyard of the temple. This area of the temple is called 'Jaba Pura. 'At the end of the courtyard is another Candi Bentar built into the wall that leads to the central courtyard.

    This gate is guarded by smoothly carved huge statues of two Dwarapala or guardians given a brush of golden colors. At the top of the gate is a carving of Kala which is quite different than other Kala carvings elsewhere since it has fangs that stick upwards and a pair of hands with open arms.
